How do you search by isbn on ebay?
You could just put the isbn in the search terms, but it will only work if sellers include the isbn in the item description. In my experience buying books on ebay, the descriptions tend to be pretty sketchy.
If you can't find something you want on ebay, Alibris.com and Abebooks.com (if you're looking for used books) typically have full listings that include isbn, and a lot of the sellers that go on ebay also list through those two sites.

All the material is in the book, all the teacher's manual does is suggest examples and give notes to why the author does things a certain way instead of another.
For example, when teaching basic kinematics, equations of motions, some professors choose the ground to be 0 and going up is positive. Some choose the peak height to be zero and go down negatively. When a new publisher prints an out of print book does the new publisher need new ISBN numbers?
Yes The digits after the country/language designation indicate the publisher
5.1. General
A separate ISBN must be assigned to every title, or edition of a title by each publisher, but NOT to an unchanged impression or unchanged reprint of the same title in the same format by the same publisher. Revised editions require a new ISBN. A price change does not call for a new ISBN. Changes of the format induce a new ISBN. The same title being published in a series and individually is treated as two different editions.

If ISBN# match does it mean it's the exact book I'm looking for?
I saw this book on amazon, and its a book I've been looking for. Under description the number of pages differs from my previous copy. But the 13 digit ISBN is the same as my previous copy. I want to know, is the book on amazon still the book I'm looking for (which I want to be the same as my previous copy)?
Thanks in advance.|||I am under the impression that if the content changes (such as number of pages) a new ISBN should be acquired.
A book CAN use the same ISBN through multiple printings if the interior content, format, etc. all stay the same, but not if the content has undergone revisions as a new edition usually does.
In this case, if the 13 digit ISBN matches but the page counts don't, Amazon probably has the page count wrong. They have the wrong page counts on our books all the time (though it's not always their fault-- sometimes it's the publisher's!).
It's almost surely the same book.|||Every single book that is published has its own ISBN number. So, the answer to your question is yes, they are the same book. Maybe the number of pages that is written in the description is just an error. Also, for your information, the term ISBN number is redundant because ISBN stands for International Standard Book Number. But it is a very common mistake.

They should be accommodating. Or go to your book store and look up the numbers on the books themselves then buy them online. If neither of those options work, then send out an e-mail to your student list serve and ask students who have taken the class before if they have the ISBN. Asking previous students is not always reliable because the books can change from semester to semester, but if all else fails, you could try it out. Also, try to check and see if the books are available in your library, as this can save money.|||I would always go right to the book store a month or so prior to school starting and write down all the information for the books I'd need. How can I find an ISBN number if I know the title and author?
Go to any reputable book web site like Amazon and type in the title and author. That information should be given.
How do I get a ISBN # for my book?
Publishers usually assign your book an ISBN#, and if you're with a traditional publisher, you won't have to worry about that.
If you're self publishing however, you have a few options.
ISBN#s are purchased in blocks of ten usually, and get pretty expensive. Depending on what self-publisher you're using however, there may be a deal available for you to purchase one they have. I know Lulu.com offers such deals, for example. If you need to purhcase it yourself, however, you can visit http://www.isbn.org for details.
Also, keep in mind that while current ISBN#s are ten digits, this is changing to thirteen digits in 2007, as I understand it.
Much luck to you and your publishing endeavors. :-)|||Search for it on Amazon. That's what I do.
Oh, I'm assuming there isn't one on the book, right? Otherwise you look by the barcode. But if there isn't what, look for it on Amazon.|||If you're talking about getting an ISBN for a book you are publishing,

Why do some textbooks have both 10 digit and 13 digit ISBN numbers?
The ISBN system recently was changed to 13 digits. Most books published in the last year or so list both the 10-digit and the 13-digit numbers. The reason for the change is to make ISBNs compatible with the UPC barcodes that nearly all products have on them now.|||You should buy used college textbooks at GreenTextbooks.com - Saving the Planet One Textbook at a Time GreenTextbooks.com is your online leader for finding used textbooks, DVDs, CDs. http://www.GreenTextbooks.com

The ISBN of the fifth edition of Elementary Numbers Theory and Its Applications is 0-32-123Q072, where Q is a?
The ISBN of the fifth edition of Elementary Numbers Theory and Its Applications is 0-32-123Q072, where Q is a digit. Find the value of Q.|||Actually, you can work it out by algebra. The last digit of a 10-digit ISBN - in this case, the '2' at the end - is a check digit. It can always be calculated from the other nine digits. If the complete ISBN is represented by "qrstuvwxyz", where each letter stands for one digit (the hyphens don't count), then
10p + 9r + 8s + 7t + 6u + 5v + 4w + 3x + 2y + z
is always evenly divisible by 11. Inserting the numbers in your example, where p = 0, r = 3, s = 2, and so on (w = Q in particular), you get
10*0 + 9*3 + 8*2 + 7*1 + 6*2 + 5*3 + 4*Q + 3*0 + 2*7 + 2
= 0 + 27 + 16 + 7 + 12 + 15 + 4Q + 0 + 14 + 2
= 4Q + 93
For that to be divisible by 11, there must be an integer n such that 4Q + 93 = 11n. That's a Diophantine equation. Since the numbers are small, you can solve it pretty quickly by trial and error. Try Q = 0, 1, 2, 3, ... until you reach a multiple of 11. It works out that with Q = 7, 4Q + 93 = 121 = 11*11. So the answer is 7.
If the numbers were too large for trial and error, there is a general technique for solving linear Diophantine equations in two variables. It involves the Euclidean algorithm. But that would take another few paragraphs to explain, so I'll stop with that.|||To find "Q" involves googling for the ISBN number. You can't work it out by some formula or other. Is there any significant reason why some ISBN numbers in books start with a 3 - when most start with 0 or 1?
Yes.
From website: What is the format of the ISBN?
Every ISBN consists of ten digits and whenever it is printed it is preceded by the letters ISBN. The ten-digit number is divided into four parts of variable length, each part separated by a hyphen.
Does the ISBN have any meaning imbedded in the numbers?
The four parts of an ISBN are as follows:
Group or country identifier which identifies a national or geographic grouping of publishers;
Publisher identifier which identifies a particular publisher within a group;
Title identifier which identifies a particular title or edition of a title;
Check digit is the single digit at the end of the ISBN which validates the ISBN.

Concerning ISBN numbers - what does a "block of 10" mean?

If so, how can any publisher afford such a thing when they publish hundreds of books a year?|||The ISBN number only differs for each different edition of a book, not each different copy, so you could print 1000 copies of a new hardcover book with one of those ten ISBN numbers... if you wanted to print 500 paperback copies, you'd have to use a new ISBN number for those.

Do books change ISBN numbers if it's the same book in another language?
If there are two books, one in English and one in Spanish, but it's the same book as in title, author, etc., is the ISBN number the same?|||Not necessarily. How do I find out who the manufacturer of a product is by looking up the bar code (ISBN code)?

You can set up your business ID# with your Social Security Number. Most often places you need to show them (Amazon, etc.) you enter your SSN as your business ID#.
Make sure you hold on to all your records for costs and things because your taxes will be a pain in the butt, but at least you won't have to file as a business. That's even worse.
Also, if you file as an individual you can can write off a lot more expenses that if you were a business. If you don't employ anyone, like an assistant or whatever, the government will usually have absolutely no problem doing it.

Why theres written ISBN in the back of a book, and how can i interprete the code bars?
What do they mean?|||The ISBN is the International Standard Book Number. No two book titles have the same number. The first part of the number actually tells you what publisher it is if you have a list of codes. For instance, my three titles from Hard Shell Word Factory have the numbers 0-7599-3501-7, 0-7599-3491-6, and 0-7599-0400-6.
The bar code tells the computer the name of the book, the inventory code, and the price it should charge. If there's a discount on that particular book, it is able to keep it straight by the bar code.

What's the difference in the ISBN # in Maniac Magee?
I need to purchase this book by monday for a class, and my teacher told us the ISBN was 0-06-440424-2, but when I search it, the only way it buy it is online. Then I noticed there was the same book, in hardcover and paperback again, but for in-store purchase. But, they had a different ISBN #. I was just wondering if they were the same book with a different ISBN number????????????|||The hardcover and paperback versions of a book will have different ISBNs, even if they're the same edition (same text and pictures). This is because the ISBN is used by libraries and bookshops to ensure they can buy exactly the book they want - if you wanted the hardcover and got the paperback instead, you probably wouldn't be very pleased.
The text should be the same as the ISBN that your teacher told you buy, because fictional books are very rarely revised beyond correcting typos. You might find that the pagination is different - if your teacher says "turn to page 23 and tell me..." that part in your copy might be on page 22 or 24. But if you're paying attention to what's happening in the story, that shouldn't be a problem :-)|||I dont' know if this will actually answer your question, but the paperback version and hardcover version will have different ISBNs. So, if one is hardcover and the other paperback then that can account for the different ISBNs. Are they the same edition?|||It is the same book. The paperback and hardcover versions have different ISBN - but the contents are the same. This is going to change in the next few years - and there will be other changes as well, as ebooks are brought into the ISBN fold.

What is the difference between ISBN-10 and ISBN-13?
Why is it necessary to have two different ISBN numbers for the same book, or do they both refer to the same book?|||Both 10 and 13 are based on the same ISBN number. ISBN-13 is based on ISBN-10, has prefix 978 and recalculated check digit.
The reason for it is that ISBN agency is running out of numbers and is going to introduce new 979 prefixes in a year or so.
Both ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 are the same ISBN number just in two different forms.
You can generate an ISBN-13 + the barcode that goes with it using this site: http://www.barcoderobot.com/isbn-13.html

What does the ISBN number mean in books ? .. so each and every book has a different number?
or judt different titles?|||International Standard Book Number.
And yes, so every book has its own number.|||It is simply an ID number; yes, each book has its own unique number. Somewhere in the first few numbers, of the ten numbers in the ISBN, are the numbers that identify the publishing house of the book, BTW.|||ISBN stands for the"International Standard Book Number", which is a 10-digit number that uniquely identifies a book and/or book-like products published internationally.
The purpose of the ISBN is while enabling a person to identify one title or edition of a title from one specific publisher, which is unique to that edition, also allowing for more efficient marketing of products by booksellers, libraries, universities, wholesalers and distributors.
The 10-digit (in some cases includes alphanumeric as well) ISBN number is formatted in 4-parts, each part having the following meanning:
1. Group or country identifier which identifies a national or geographic grouping of publishers;
2. Publisher identifier which identifies a particular publisher within a group;
3. Title identifier which identifies a particular title or edition of a title; and
4. Check digit is the single digit at the end of the ISBN which validates the ISBN.
Is this question a homework assignment?|||Faith is correct, but ISBNs are now converting to 13-digits.
But, yes, each book title (and sometimes edition) will have it's own ISBN. In fact, if you know the ISBN of a book, you can go into a book store with that number alone and find the book you're looking for.

Why do people ask for the ISBN code / number when they buy books ?
Just curious. I was selling some books on the internet and people always ask me what is the ISBN number for those books. if they want the details about the books, should they look for the author, the publisher, the edition or year of the book ? I always didn't ask them why but now thinking back about it, I am curious. Thanks.|||The ISBN number is unique to each book and instantly identifies it specifically. For example, suppose you are looking for "Pushing Your Finger into the Pencil Sharpener" by Iman Idiot, published in 1956. But there have been three new editions of the book since then, and good old Iman has written several other books with similar titles. If you identify the book with its ISBN number, there is no question about which edition it is, (this is particularly important with school books, which often go through several changes in edition), who the author is (if there are several books with very similar or even the same titles), and any other information which might be confusing or change over time.
Is it expensive to secure a Copyright and ISBN registration?
Copyright registration costs $35 for most registrations. You do not need to get an ISBN unless you are self-publishing. Single ISBNs cost $125.
Is there a website that compares book content of 2 versions from same author by giving the ISBN of 2 versions?
I've mistakenly purchased a brand new book that turned out to be published in Asia, same title, same authors, same edition as the version published in America, but with different ISBN number from the one published in America. I want to know if it is identical in content to the American version before I buy the American version.|||I guess the content will be the same. An author very rarely writes two versions of his or her book. However there might be an abridged version of the book, in which case a comparison would demonstrate nothing more than one being longer than the other. Usually when a book is published in different countries, the ISBN number pertains to the country rather than to the editing press, at least this is the case for some editions having presses in different countries. A book printed in Asia is very much cheaper than one printed in America. One of the reasons why an edition is present in both places is that it is cheaper in Asia.
You could check out your book at www.amazon.com. By initiating a search you would get the book you are looking for as well as the different versions if this the case. If you already have the original book, even though it is not published in America, it would be a waste of money going to buy another. If the book you are referring to is a classic, you could find it at www.gutenberg.org. It's a website where you can download books for free. The books there usually are the original, unabridged version.
Hope this helps!|||There is no such web site.
If the books you're comparing have an ISBN-10 and an ISBN-13, they'll be almost the same (with the extra numbers), and these will be the same book.
Except for any possible printing mistakes, they're going to be the same book, unless one is a translation (which is unlikely).

Does LuLu Charge you a $35 Isbn number so they become your publisher?
So then if you wanted to upload your book as an eBook onto Amazon / Barnes and Nobles you can't?|||I'm not sure about Lulu, but I know Createspace (run by Amazon), allows you the option of either getting your own ISBN OR they'll assign you one for free, but you wouldn't be able to use their ISBN if you intended to submit your story to another publisher or another self-publishing gig. I think they'll allow you to use it for an eStore, though.
How do I create an ISBN # for a book my company is publishing?
My company is publishing 1 book and we are seeking an ISBN #. I see Bowker has blocks of 10, however we only need 1 ISBN #. Any ideas?|||you do not create an ISBN. Your publisher purchases them.|||ISBN numbers are only sold in blocks of ten and only to publishers. The first numbers of an ISBN are unique to each company, so to get one not be possible. I paid $99 for an ISBN, but now it says it will take 4-6 weeks before it goes online. Should I wait? Or can I have the same book published with a different ISBN through createspace.com?|||No you can not have different ISBN for the same book.
But in your case maybe it is the best to do so, to have two ISBN for the same book. You have to ask your publisher that.
I worked in EAN which are the same codes but not for books.
Publisher is the one who can answer that question.|||For a different edition, yes. Man you got ripped off. Pax-C

How can I get the solution manual for the book: Calculus of a single variable 8th ed. Isbn:0-618-50304-8?
by Larson, hostetler, and Edwards. It would be great if a could get it in pdf format. Thanks|||You can get it as a cd format as a torrent file. First you need to know how download the torrent program and start looking for the files.|||You should be able to get this through Amazon.Com but I don't think you can get it in PDF format. And these tend to cost around $40 or $50 or more.
I used Stewart for my first semester calculus and bought the solution manual and it was $40, so these are not cheap.
Good luck!

In traditional writing, is it necessary to have an ISBN no. and library of congress catalog no. ?
are writers required to have that before submitting your synopsis and book proposal to an agent?|||You get both from your publisher as a part of your standard author's contract once you have sold the book. No do not copyright your book. It makes publishers and agents feel you don't trust them. And you cannot get an ISBN anyway. They are sold in lots of ten only to publishers. Do nothing - when the book sells, all of those things are taken care of for you. Pax-C|||Nope. ISBN-10s and ISBN-13s are assigned to a title after the contract has been signed, but lately, I've been getting ISBNs without the contract signed due to rush titles.
ISBN stands for International Standard Book Number, and you shouldn't have to worry about acquiring one at all. And you don't have to worry about the LCCN, either. The editorial department applies for an application for an LC number, and after the Library of Congress has read it, assigned it all of the numbers it needs to (it's a crazy-long process), you'll get Cataloging in Publication Data (CIP) along with the LC number.
Rest easy!

Is there something that allows you to convert titles to isbn numbers?|||google.com|||Basically... no.
Or at least not to my knowledge. The demand for such a tool would be huge though I reckon.

Can a college put a different ISBN than the one that they said you need?
I take online classes and they tell you the books you need. They have the books you need and all you have to do is select them and you can buy them from the school. Of course I wanted to buy them used to save money but none of the ISBNs showed up anywhere on any website. I got the books from the school and the ISBNs were not even close to what they had said I needed. It sounds like a scam and it is wrong.|||It doesn't sound like a scam; it sounds like a mistake! There is a huge difference!
Okay, let me explain ISBN numbers. The initials stand for International Standard Book Number, and they are assigned by the Bureau of Standardization, not the school. They are long, complicated numbers, so it is very easy for someone keying in a number to get it wrong. Rather than looking at just the ISBN #, look at the publisher, edition, year of publication. If those are correct, then the number was just a mistake.

why does excel work on ebay file exchange 10 digit isbn but gnumeric doesn't?
if i upload 10 digit isbn on excel it works on ebay
but if i load the same 10 digit on gnumeric it does nto work
any ideas?|||Gnumeric is not the same as MS-Excel. See the following:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.gnumeric
Though Gnumeric has the ability to import and export data in several file formats, including CSV, MS-Excel, HTML, LaTeX, Lotus 1-2-3, OpenDocument and Quattro Pro; its native format is the Gnumeric file format (.gnm or .gnumeric), which is an XML file compressed with gzip.
You might try exporting the data out of Gnumeric into a more suitable file format before uploading to EBay.

I'm looking to buy textbooks on Amazon and I don't want to buy the wrong edition. My school's website doesn't list the edition of the book, just the title and ISBN #. they both look exactly the same and have the same covers, however one is dated 30th august 2007 and the other 6th october 2008.They also botth have different isbn numbers. They are manga books but can there realy be a huge difference in them?I want to save myself some money here thanks al|||There's probably absolutely no difference. They're just different editions, and one was apparently cheaper to print than the other one. If you're worried, see if you can find some reviews of the product, but it seems like it would be OK as long as you trust the book seller.|||If they are different it should have something on the cover of the book in the first few pages of the book that says something like "revised", "additional content", "edited", or something that would indicate that the book has been changed.

When a website asks for a book's ISBN number, are they usually talking about the 10 digit or the 13 digit one?
There's an "ISBN-10" and an "ISBN-13" on most books.
Do most sites want one over the other?|||Give the 13-digit number if you have one, and the 10-digit one otherwise. The industry switched from 10-digit to 13-digit numbers in 2007, when it became apparent that we would soon run out of 10-digit numbers.

If the ISBN is correct, will there be any diffrence in the book i have to buy and book avialable on amazon?
I cant make a devision because amazon does not have the book edition and the picture on it. however, the ISBN is identical. here is the isbn 0256826137. I am not sure if it is the 10th edition|||First, it's probably from an Amazon merchant, so you could email them and ask specifically if it's the edition you need.

There's a good possibility this is the correct edition, but especially with textbooks, double check. If you know other specifics (pages in book, year published) you could get a better idea as well.

Is it legal to change and ISBN number?: My school bookstore posts their books with different ISBN #.?
My bookstore on campus will post a different ISBN for their books so I can't get the ISBN and search for the books online. It is really annoying because they ommit just enough information (Full title and edition) so you can't look up the book at other sources. I have to go to the bookstore copy down the real ISBN and then look it up online. Is this legal?|||No.. illegal|||Of course it's legal. Not wise, but it's legal. It's their merchandise and their posting.
The best you can do is let them know how you feel about it.|||Nothing illegal about that. Sorry. So long as the book is in their possession, it is THEIR book. They can do with it what they please. Doesn't make it right, but it's perfectly legal. They're trying to prevent you from ordering the book somewhere else! Stupid campus book stores.

What do I do if Amazon doesn't recognise the ISBN, UPC, or ASIN code?
Hi guys, I am trying to sell a board game on Amazon. I have searched for the product via its name and I cannot find it. I then tried to search by entering the codes mentioned above (barcode number) and it doesn't recognse it. Does anyone know what I can do about it? Solution gets ten points!|||Chances are that the game just isn't in Amazon's catalog.
Last year I had about 6 board games that Amazon didn't have in their catalog, so I had to add them myself.
As long as you're certain that the product isn't in Amazon's catalog, you can add it yourself. BUT you need to have an upgraded Pro Merchant account to add items to their catalog. The Pro Merchant account costs $39.99 a month.
There are other benefits to being a PM (I've been one for a bit under 3 years), but for me the biggest benefit is being able to sell things on Amazon that nobody else has...all I need to do is add the item into Amazon.
If you are NOT a Pro Merchant, there is no way you can add this into their catalog. That's really just how Amazon works.
Sorry. Hope this helps.|||Visit a big supermarket that has barcode readers any other barcode reader would be to look for 17 digit barcodes, calculate the UPC check digit for the first 12 digits, and if it checks out correctly then you probably have a UPC+5 barcode. There few software that do this type of conversion. Then you can go back input the info in amazon. Or search on ebay to see if someone have a similar products and copy their barcode or UPC

Thanks in advance!|||The International Standard Book Number, or ISBN (sometimes pronounced "is-ben"), is a unique[1] identifier for books, intended to be used commercially. The ISBN system was created in the United Kingdom in 1966 by the booksellers and stationers W H Smith and originally called Standard Book Numbering or SBN. It was adopted as international standard ISO 2108 in 1970. A similar identifier, the International Standard Serial Number (ISSN), is used for periodical publications such as magazines.
Each edition and variation (except reprints) of a book receives its own ISBN. The number is either 10 or 13 digits long, and consists of four or five parts:
1.if 13-digit ISBN, an EAN prefix, either 978 or 979
2.the country of origin or language code,
3.the publisher,
4.the item number, and
5.a checksum character|||From the International ISBN agency:
If you wish to obtain an ISBN, you should contact the national or regional ISBN agency in your own country. Presently, more than 160 countries or territories are official ISBN members.
Please contact the agency responsible for you. There you will get further information on the procedure of ISBN assignment.

ISBN: same ISBN and edition but different year - does this matter?
I'm purchasing my college textbooks online and have noticed that many of the textbooks I have found have the same ISBN and edition as the professor has requested; however, the year is different.
For example, for the textbook "Legal Environment" - my professor has posted the following information:
Author: BEATTY
Edition:4TH 11
ISBN: 9780324786545
I searched the ISBN and found the textbook edition: 4TH 10.
Does this mean the content will be any different?|||As far as I can tell from purchasing my books as long as it is the same edition it should be okay. if you have a way to contact your professor it might be a good question to ask him or her.

In a college class, if I have the right book, right edition, but different ISBN #, am I screwed?
I bought the textbook off of eBay and everything's right excpet for the ISBN #. Is this a huge problem?|||No. It's probably a special edition of the textbook. Also, the Instructor's copy has a different ISBN than the student's copy. If that's what you've got, I'd say that you're in great shape!|||Something else is wrong, because the ISBN # identifies the book, so if the number is wrong, so is the book or the edition. The only possibility I can think of is if your book is sold either separately, or as part of a package including software or something like that, the ISBN # could be different in each of those two cases. You may find that you are expected to have the software too, and in that case, if the software isn't sold separately, you might have to buy another book.
If the textbook's ISBN is different should I buy it?

ITP 9th Edition 2009
ISBN: 9781424068487
On Amazon there is a textbook with the same title and author, but a different ISBN (9780547167022). Would the contents be different?|||The one you need is a custom edition for your college. You can ask your teacher if you NEED that edition or if a normal one will work.|||Yes, very probably.
The ISBN number refers to a specific version of a book.
If the teacher wants you to have the ISBN number you indicated, then that's the only book (with that number) you should buy for the class.
Since it's the 9th edition, it probably contains information updates that are not in earlier editions with the same title.|||type the number in at google and see if the same book pops up after you click search, that's how you will know if it's the same exact book you need or not.|||I believe it's the same if publisher and edition is the same as well

Is ISBN same for both, paperback and hardcover editions of the book?
and is ISBN assigned only once to the book or every time the different publisher decides to publish the book?|||The paperback and hardcover have different ISBNs.|||There is usually two numbers issued. One for paperback and another for hardbound. However, sometimes the same ISBN number is used for both. Another thing worth noting is, if a book is updated from one year to the next it could have the same ISBN.|||Books tend to have multiple ISBN numbers to keep track of different versions like paperback, hardcover, different cover, but thee only number that are different are usually the last two or three digits. The rest is the same because essentially its the same book|||each book has one ISBN
What is the process for getting isbn no. for a publishing house?
We have a one publishing house ie "Chhandas Prakashan, Nagpur", We published some books in last few years. We want to get ISBN number for our publishing house. Please tell us the process for that.|||It must be on the book else its a pirated copy. I think so.|||You need to do better and much more professional research if you wish to continue to do business as a legitimate publisher.
You should not be on YA/B%26amp;A looking for a fly by night answer that still should be verified.
ISBN numbers are an internationally recognized system of tracking book titles. If you were to speak to a proper publishing company or copyright lawyer, they will tell you there is a fee to register your company more than likely because the first few digits of an ISBN identify the country of the publisher and the publishing house, the other letters and numbers are for the genre I believe and perhaps the year and month or some combination like that.
Again if you plan to be a reputable company then you need to get some legal advice and not ask on something that could get you sued if the information provided to you is incorrect and you utilize it anyway.|||DR,
I don't quite understand what you're saying, but when a book is published by a publishing house, even a vanity publisher, it must have an ISBN. This is how a book is identified for sales purposes because of other books with the same title. For instance, if you do a search on amazon like this:
amazon the talisman
When it comes up, scroll down and you will see information about the book. When it was published, the number of pages, and the ISBN.

Is a book without an ISBN number rare?
I have a copy of E.M. Forster's A Room with a View and it doesn't have an ISBN number. It was published in 1995 though. It says it was created for the Softback Preview by arrangement with Penguin Books and it is copyright by Book-of-the-Month Club. It was printed and bound by the Bath Press in Bath. Anybody know what that means? Or why doesn't it have an ISBN number?|||It means that it was a book club edition and was not available to buy from anywhere other than the Book-of-the-Month club. It may not necessarily be worth much, unless you can find someone who is obsessed with having a complete set of Book-of-the-Month club selections and that title happens to be one of the ones that they are looking for. The odds of finding that one person are slim though.
The book does not have an ISBN as one is not required if a book is not being sold commercially. The copyright does not belong to the author as the book is in the public domain.

Is a book's ISBN number ever removed from the library of congress catalogue?
