I'm looking at my college text books online. I looked at my brothers text book for Chemistry (he took the class last year). It was the same book, same publish year, and same edition but it had a different ISBN. Is it still the same book or is it different? It would be really inconvenient to have to pay for a new book. Please help.|||It may indeed be the same book, the ISBN changes from each book printed.
For instance I own two copies of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
The ISBN on copy #1 being "ISBN 0-7475-6218-0"
The ISBN on copy #2 being "ISBN 0-7475-3848-4".|||Unless the books are exactly the same, a different ISBN usually means a different edition of the book. Let's say you have an original hard copy edition of a book, a paperback edition, and maybe a special edition of some kind. All three of those will have different ISBN numbers. There have been cases of text books having updates to them within the year. Also, make sure you aren't getting the ISBN mixed up with the UPC.
