For example, my course requires ISBN 9780307475244 but there is also ISBN 9780307378774. Is this the same book?|||The hyphens/separations in the ISBN don't make any difference. The system of the numbers has been designed so that every number is unique regardless of the hyphenations, which are there only for convenience.
But yeah, any book that is published in both hardback and paperback has different numbers for the two types of binding (or "texture"); that makes no difference. But, if there are multiple *editions* of a book, that could make a difference, because the text or pagination could be different.|||You should print the ISBN separated properly, as the groupings have meaning (language, publisher, etc).
A new ISBN is assigned for new editions. My novel Time for Patriots has different ISBNs for the hard cover and soft cover editions (as well as a different price)
