Would a 2003 edition of a book and a 2006 edition of the same book have the same or different ISBN?

i wrote down the ISBN for my college books but i forgot to write down the edition. will i need to go back or will the isbn i wrote be for the correct edition?|||If it was a different edition then it would have a different ISBN.

Occasionally you can get reprints (that are exactly the same, no changes, updates or ammendments) that have the same ISBN but this is not common, especially now that we have ISBNs.|||Different!|||different - although, when you shop, you can probably find the newer versions of the books on the websites|||Well I think If something is changed then it's ISBN no. shoud change but may be due to just change of cover or addition (not removing) may lead to same ISBN code.|||If it is a simple reprinting of it, no change. If it is an updating, it is a new book, and a new number.

To wit. The Illustrated Da Vinci Code has a completely different ISBN number.

You can use the old ISBN to determine the new ISBN|||The ISBN number will not change unless the book has been substantially rewritten. If you look in the front matter (that first page that tells you about ISBN numbers and authors and classification and all that other stuff, is called the 'front matter') it will give the dates when the book was reprinted.
