How I can get my book ( ISBN) info total sale in the market ?if the publishing Co. claiming No sale?

I had seen my book in so many places , but the company state to me zero print and zero sale.|||If your publisher isn't honest with you, I don't think there's much that you can do. That's why finding a good publisher is so important. As far as I know, there's no way to find your total sales record other than what the publisher says.

What's the difference between copyright and isbn?

Apart from the knowledge base (the link I just wrote down) there's also the community and they'll know quite a bit about publishing.|||You have one per _version_ of your book - so if you are publishing a book, you need one number no matter how many copies you print. I want to buy a textbook, however the ISBN number is different.?

The book is coming overseas. The title, picture and edition are the same as the requirements listed on my class syllabus.

Is it possible that publishers give different ISBN when the book is printed in another country?

thanks|||Often times a publisher will create an "international" edition of a textbook, but they are the same as the "base" book. Can you provide an example? There are currently two ISBNs for every textbook, an ISBN 10 and an ISBN 13. These ISBNs should be very similar, as the ISBN 13 will generally be the ISBN 10 preceded by 978. Also, the last digit of the ISBN can be different. This is the "check digit" of the ISBN. When the last digit of the ISBN is different, it usually means that the same book was published by different publishers.|||Yes, that could be the reason. Also maybe the book was tailored for a certain school or something. That is what happened to me once. Same edition and everything but since if was tailored to a certain school, it had a different ISBN. But being overseas could be the major part of it though.|||Please Visit

In books, is there a possibility to have two books with the same ISBN?

In books, is there a possibility to have two books with the same ISBN?|||short answer: no

long answer: The International Standard Book Number, or ISBN, is a unique, numeric commercial book identifier based upon the 9-digit Standard Book Numbering (SBN) code created by Gordon Foster, now Emeritus Professor of Statistics at Trinity College, Dublin,[2] for the booksellers and stationers W.H. Smith and others in 1966.|||No you can't

Ive written a book n wish to publish it in USA. How do i obtain the ISBN Number?

How do I register my copyright at the Library of Congress? Do i need permission to publish?|||You don't. ISBN numbers are sold to publishers in lots of ten. The first three numbers are unique to that publisher and help identify who published the book. As for registering a copyright, if you are planning on sending your book to a publisher, don't do it. There is nothing that says "amateur" more than an author copyrighting a book. It really annoys publishers and agents. It says "I am sending you my book to read but I don't trust you." Believe me - they have no intention of stealing your work. They receive thousands of manuscripts a day. If and when you sell your book to a publisher, as a part of your standard author's contract, you will get an ISBN and the publisher will copyright it for you. They have different covers but will I have any problem if I get the older one that is MUCH cheaper?|||Different ISBN for a same book means revision or newer edition. The newest will have most current information. Usually the substance will not be much different but the examples given will be different. Also, some items or topics will be rearranged. It is therefore prudent to use the newest edition if you are required by your educational institution. If you just want for reference purposes, then it is ok to get the older edition.

If 2 books have different publisher and edition but have the same ISBN number would the book be the same?

I need this Calculus book and the I found the book with the same ISBN number, however the publisher and the edition is different. Will the book still be the same b/c they have the same ISBN number or different books? Thanks|||ISBN Numbers are unique to every book just like a social security number. My guess is that it's the same book. Maybe it was published once by one publisher then republished by another. The first publisher might have decided not to publish a later edition. If that's the case then the books are the same. It's been my experience that textbooks don't differ drastically between editions.

Another possibility is maybe the site you're looking at made an error in posting the ISBNs and they really are two different books. Check other sites like BN or Amazon. Half.com usually has a link that shows you different editions of a book.

My suggestion would be to get in contact with the teacher who is asking for the book. He or she should be able to tell you which they want and if there is any difference at all between the two. You could also try looking up the book's website. Most textbooks these days come with one. The site should list the different editions.|||Yes, except for slight differences. Most differences between book editions/publications are minimal though.

I need to publish an ebook, how to obtain an ISBN? Is it free or I have to pay for it?

I want to find a legitimate source to obtain an ISBN for ebook publishing?

Thanks.|||You can get an ISBN here: https://www.myidentifiers.com/|||It's not free, my dear friend.

1.Check with your publisher, if you used an outside company to publish your ebook. An ISBN might be included in your package, or available as an add-on.

2. Decide how many you need. If you have just one ebook, in one format, and don't plan to write any more titles, you can probably get by with a single ISBN. However, it may be cheaper to get a block of them, and you will need a separate ISBN for each version -- electronic, print, CD, etc.

3.Visit ISBN.org to purchase your ISBN. You may purchase single numbers or blocks of 10.

4.Confirm your assigned ISBN, and then copy the number and add it to the copyright page of your book. Be sure you have copied it correctly.

5. Add the ISBN to any physical versions of the book. You can add it by using a sticker or include it on the cover if the book hasn't been printed yet.

When looking for a textbook online how important is the ISBN #?

I am looking for ISBN # 1418004553 and 13 978-0-323-04937-5 online becuase it looks to be less than a third of the price of what the school is charging. Do book stores have the right to stop customers from viewing the ISBN for books?

I needed to purchase some text books for college, and I wanted to write the ISBN for each book that I needed so that I can see whether the books were cheaper on line or at the college book store. Unfortunately, the college book store refused to let me see and write the ISBN number. I'm assuming that they are just doing this to prevent me from finding it cheaper and buying it somewhere else. So, I am wondering whether or not we have the right to view the ISBN for books.|||You should be able to look up the ISBNs online. How would the bookstore know that is what you are doing? Why don't they have the books up on the shelves. I also think that there is no legal reason for them to be required to share ISBN numbers with you. Perhaps your teachers would give them to you? At my school the lists of books have ISBNs on them.

Can we publish a pod book on lulu with ISBN from India?

You see we have two options at lulu:

1. Published by lulu

2. Published by you

However, one can publish without ISBN, and my clear cut question is if one can use Indian ISBN for the title without being published by lulu or you. It may be another option for self-published. Lulu says that published by you is only for the US citizens, not the Indians or other continental citizens. The book I'm trying to buy from amazon has the same ISBN # that is listed on my teacher's syllabus, but the syllabus says 2008 and the one on amazon says 2007. Are they the same?|||Your teacher could have made an error or the book is an older edition. I use to sell textbooks for a living. I would tell you to ask your teacher prior to ordering the book. Some books update often like that. You can also ask your teacher can you get the book that is a year older. A lot of the time the information is the same, just a new pic on the cover and new book order. Usually most information in most subjects do not update like that.

To check edition years go to the publishers website or do a search that way you can see for yourself if the teacher could have made a mistake. Good Luck!

How do I do it?|||You may obtain an ISBN through R.R. Bowker at this link: http://www.isbn.org/standards/home/index鈥?/a> There is not a real differentiation between a self-published ISBN and any other type. They are simply unique identifiers used to distinguish one title from another, like a social security number, as books, like people, can have similar or the same names. Each publishing house has their own prefixes (Dorrance Publishing for example uses both 0-8059- and 1-4349-), and unless you have your book produced though an existing publisher with its own ISBN numbers, you will more than likely need to obtain one on your own. In any case, please be assured that one ISBN number obtained through R. R. Bowker is as legitimate as any other.|||Some of the digits in an ISBN identify the publisher, so it's the publisher who allocates ISBNs to books. Do I need different ISBN numbers for translation?

Hello, I wanted to self-publish a book in English and French. Do I need to buy separate ISBN numbers for each language? Is there a way to have just one ISBN with a language code on each? Please help.|||You will need a unique ISBN for each version of the book you are publishing. The ISBN is used to identify your book with your title, author name, publisher, page count, language and the format (i.e. paperback, hardcover, ePub, eBook, audio, etc.) So each version of the book (English and French) will need it's own ISBN. From there if you are promoting the book in more than one format (which I would highly recommend, it will give you more distribution and potential for sales/buyers) each format, in it's respective language, will need it's own ISBN.

If you offer the English version in paperback and ePub = 2 ISBNs

If you offer the French version in paperback and ePub = 2 ISBNs

Total # of ISBNs in this example = 4

How can I find out what a book is worth without a ISBN number?

I have mulitple books with no ISBN number and would like to know how much they are worth.|||A number of factors go into deciding the worth of a book. First, consider the author. How well known is the author? What is the demand for the writing of that author? Next, consider the content of the book, the subject matter and society's demand for the subject. After that, what is the page length, the word content of the book? Are there pictures, indexes, etc? Is there more than the actual written content matter? And finally, what is the cover like, paperback or hardback, and what are the pages like in paper type? All these factors go into deciding the cost worthiness of a book.|||As most books that are worth something don't have ISBN numbers then you are in luck,

Does each story in a self published anthology need its own ISBN number?

I am interested in self publishing a short story anthology with a few friends, and we have a few questions that we can't seem to find answers to anywhere. (It may be that we're looking in the wrong places.)

1.) Does each short story need its own ISBN number?

2.) Does each short story need to have an official copyright?

3.) Do we have to go through a publishing house, or can we compile it by ourselves and use an independent printing company/website?|||1. No. ISBN numbers are for whole books, not for the individual stories in an anthology.

2. The copyright of a short story automatically belongs to the writer, so you would need their official permission to reproduce it in your anthology.

3. If you're self-publishing, the two options you've given amount to the same thing. All a self-publishing company does is, basically, type-set and print your book for you at your expense, just like a printer would. They may also offer proof-reading/design services at additional expense - but then, so would a design/print company.

Do ISBN numbers really make a difference when purchasing books for college courses?

So the time has come to purchase books for next semester, and to save money I've been trying to purchase books from fellow students on Craigslist, instead of the college bookstore. Nevertheless, I find that the campus bookstore lists different ISBN numbers than the ones I'm seeing people post on Craigslist, but they appear to be the exact same book, same edition, same author. Will it make a difference, or is it just the bookstore's scheme to try and trick people into thinking they're the only ones with the correct books?|||If it's really the same edition, then the difference in ISBN is probably between paperback and hardback, in which case, either one is OK. But if there are different editions, you need to make sure you get the right edition. But you apparently are aware of that already.

Where can I buy a single isbn number for under 15 dollars ?

I found a site where you could buy an isbn number for 10 bucks a while back but forgot to bookmark the site. I'm not really sure if you can buy them that cheap or not, some sites advertise they sell stuff associated to isbn but it's not the actual number. I want the isbn numbers for paperback books I will publish soon.

Thanks John|||If you are in the U.S., the only legitimate way to buy an ISBN is through Bowker. Although they sell single numbers, they are expensive. You are better off buying a block of 10. Even if you only plan to publish one book, you may (1) change your mind, (2) publish a second edition or (3) publish in additional formats, such as hardcover, paperback, audio, ebook, etc. Each will require a new ISBN.

If someone offers to sell you an individual ISBN from their block, DO NOT buy it. The ISBN identifies the publisher. The person you bought the ISBN from will get orders and inquiries about your book because they will be listed as the publisher of record.

Once you have the ISBN, you will need to get a barcode of the number. There are lots of vendors that will do that, usually for about $15. They can supply it on film, in a file or on labels.

Good luck with your book!

If two books have same ISBN but published in different year, will the contents be the same?

I want to buy a college textbook and searched with the ISBN. The professor indicated the publishing year to be 2009; however, the sellers on amazon/ebay are selling the same book but published in 2008. Will the contents in the textbook be the same?|||I can't answer your question about this specific book, but in general, take a look at the "edition" of the book. If, for example, the 2009 printing is a second edition, you want to make sure the 2008 version is the same. There is a better than likely chance that a newer edition will have updated or revised material. You may want to ask the prof if there is any specific edition of the book he wants you to read. (I'm sure he or she will empathize with you needing to save a few dollars and not buying it form the campus bookstore.)

I hope this helps. Best of luck in your studies.

How do I get an ISBN in Canada?

i am planning on publishing a book with Lulu.com, how do i get an isbn number in canada?|||When a book is published it automatically has an ISBN assigned to it no matter what country it is published in. Lulu.com should do all the work required for this like any publisher.|||Here is a form. However this is the sticking point with Lulu. You cannot get an ISBN as an author. Only publishers can get ISBN's = so to get one you have to register as a publishing business and purchase a minimum of ten numbers plus pay a fee to register. It is going to cost you around 300 dollars. See the things Lulu doesnt tell you about their FREE services? In America, only a publisher may purchase ISBN numbers - in multiples of 10 plus a fee to register as a publisher. To get one on your own you would have to register in your state as a publisher which makes you liable for sales taxes, corporate taxes and whatever else a business must pay for their employees (you) etc. Plus you would have to buy ten of them. See why self publishing is a really really bad idea?? That's just one reason of many. Self publishing sucks. It is a scam. Pax - C.

What is the cheapest way to get an isbn number?

I wanted to see what would be the cheapest. I found the website http://www.aardvarkglobalpublishing.com/鈥?/a>

but I read someone say not to buy a single one from another "publisher", because they would get inquires about the book.

If anyone has any experience with this please let me know, I would love to get started with my new book.

Thanks guys!|||I would strongly suggest you use only the authorized ISBN provider for your country. There will be only one. For the US, it is The United States ISBN Agency.

Did you know I have had questions deleted for suggesting someone email me if they need additional Information? That being true, I am not going to do that here, said with a smile.

What does it mean when a book has two ISBN numbers?

I was just wondering...I have quite a large book collection, and I've noticed that some of my books have more than one ISBN number. They look something like this on the back of the book: ISBN-13: has 13 numbers, always starts with a 9, and ISBN-10: has 10 numbers, and usually starts with either a 0 or a 1. This is only on some of my books; most have just one ISBN. Does anyone know what it means when there are two?|||On January 1, 2007, the global book industry began the transition to 13-digit ISBNs, slowly phasing out the use of 10-digit numbers. The change to 13 digits was needed in order to expand the numbering capacity of the ISBN system and alleviate numbering shortages in certain parts of the world.

However, if they choose, some publishers may display BOTH the ISBN-10 and the ISBN-13 numbers on their books, during the transition to ISBN-13. While it is preferable to print only ISBN-13 numbers, some publishers will continue dual numbering/printing until the marketplace fully completes the transition to ISBN-13--hopefully sometime in 2008. That's why we still see some books with two ISBN's.

If you had to choose a single number-format to list for promotional reasons, I would say choose the ISBN-13, because that's the number-format everyone is moving to. However, listing both numbers wouldn't hurt, until the transition is complete.|||I think I heard why they have the 10- and 13-digit ISBNs, but I forgot what they said. Both numbers take you to the same book.
