Where can I buy a single isbn number for under 15 dollars ?

I found a site where you could buy an isbn number for 10 bucks a while back but forgot to bookmark the site. I'm not really sure if you can buy them that cheap or not, some sites advertise they sell stuff associated to isbn but it's not the actual number. I want the isbn numbers for paperback books I will publish soon.

Thanks John|||If you are in the U.S., the only legitimate way to buy an ISBN is through Bowker. Although they sell single numbers, they are expensive. You are better off buying a block of 10. Even if you only plan to publish one book, you may (1) change your mind, (2) publish a second edition or (3) publish in additional formats, such as hardcover, paperback, audio, ebook, etc. Each will require a new ISBN.

If someone offers to sell you an individual ISBN from their block, DO NOT buy it. The ISBN identifies the publisher. The person you bought the ISBN from will get orders and inquiries about your book because they will be listed as the publisher of record.

Once you have the ISBN, you will need to get a barcode of the number. There are lots of vendors that will do that, usually for about $15. They can supply it on film, in a file or on labels.

Good luck with your book!
